Fritillaria imperialis ‘Aurora’ is particularly reminiscent of royal crown, hence its common name of crown imperial. It has spiky tufts of green leaves above the large, golden yellow bell-flowers. Native to arid climates, these flowers prefer full sun with well-drained soil. A tall variety, this will certainly add feature to the rear of your borders. Can be slow to establish, so avoid moving once planted, they may not flower in the first year, but will naturalise well when they do.

  • Soil: well-drained, dry, plenty of leaf mould
  • Sunlight: Full sun
  • Planting period: Plant from August onwards
  • Flowering: April/May
  • Flowering Height: 70cm (28in)
  • Placement: 20cm (8in) deep, 25cm (10in) apart
  • Hardiness: H6
